• These catheters have a small, inflatable balloon near the tip.
• Unlike a standard 2-way foley catheter, which has two lumens (tubes), a 3-way foley catheter has an additional third lumen.
• The balloon is usually made of silicone as well.
• It is deflated during insertion and is then inflated once the catheter is in the bladder.
• The inflated balloon helps to keep the catheter in place and prevents it from slipping out.
