The Meril MeriTe Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUD) is a T-shaped, non-hormonal device, designed for long-term prevention of pregnancy (up to 10 years).
It consists of flexible side arms constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, and barium sulphate for X-ray visibility.
A 99% pure copper wire is tightly wound around the device's stem, providing a copper surface area of 380 mm², which acts as a spermicide in the uterus.
The IUD is equipped with a monofilament nylon thread for easy removal.
Recommended for adolescent women, women post-abortion or miscarriage (without infection), women with past pelvic inflammatory disease but currently infection-free, and HIV-infected women.
