Tonact 5 Tablet contains 5mg of Atorvastatin, a medication from the statin class, prescribed for lowering cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of heart disease.
This medicine works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, which lowers cholesterol synthesis in the liver and increases LDL receptor activity, resulting in reduced LDL ('bad') and total cholesterol, and a rise in HDL ('good') cholesterol.
Tonact 5 is used primarily as an adjunct to diet and exercise in patients with high cholesterol or dyslipidaemia and is also indicated in cardiovascular disease prevention and post-transplantation lipid management.
It comes as an oral tablet, generally taken once daily, and should be swallowed whole with water. Consistency in timing and adherence to prescribed dosage are important for effectiveness.
